Ceres vendors can now avail of an immediate loans to beef up their business.

The Kabankalan Ceres Vendors Association has received a P50,000 check from the city  

government of Kabankalan as livelihood loan assistance. The check was received by Cristina Suan, chairman of the association, from Mayor Pedro P. Zayco, Jr. during the turn-over program held at the KCPA Hall of the Ceres terminal recently.

On the same occasion, Mayor Zayco also gave crutches to Jay Casabuena, a lame vendor who is a member of the association. Casabuena received the unexpected gift with tears of joy in his eyes.

KCVA, organized on Nov. 2004, has presently 82 members. They contribute P1 daily to the association which has now a saving of P10,000.

Members can loan from the association from P2,000 to P5,000 depending on his contribution. The vendor-members are enjoined by the Ceres management to maintain the cleanliness of the terminal surroundings.

With Mayor Zayco during the program was SPM Ricardo M. Regalia, Jr., chair on committee on agriculture, livelihood and cooperatives.

Meanwhile, the "Kauswagan sa Ikaayong Lawas

Association" (KILAS) whose members are women vendors also received a check in the amount of P72,000 from Mayor Zayco on May 23 for their livelihood program also. The check was received by the president of the association Betty Glonio and Brgy. Capt. Alfredo Bendol of Brgy. 1.

Likewise, the Tuburan Women Association in Brgy. Binicuil also received a livelihood loan assistance in the amount of P75,000. The check was handed by Mayor Zayco to Brgy. Capt. Anastacio Belarga and Meka Salundaguit. This association has presently 29 members.


No need for people in the south to go to Bacolod City just to enjoy Jollibee's food products.

Jollibee is now open in Kabankalan and anytime people can treat themselves with french fries, juicy burger and succulent fried chicken that the store offers. The store is

ideally located at Guanzon street , beside PCIB and was officially opened to the public on May 30. A big crowd gathered in front of the store as early as 6 a.m. on the opening day. A parade with an Ati-atihan tribe and the Jollibee mascot went around the city to herald its opening.

Store manager, Sheila Arellano Go said, Jollibee-Kabankalan is the first company-owned outlet in the south of Occidental Negros. It is managed by Freemont Food Corporation, a subsidiary of Jollibee Food Corp. in the Visayas and Mindanao .

Prior to its opening, representatives of Jollibee from Manila paid a courtesy call to Mayor Pedro P. Zayco, Jr. at his office.

Go said the staff and crew that they hired are all from

Kabankalan and were intensively trained in Cebu, Iloilo and Bacolod Cities .

The management foresees that Jollibee Kabankalan will flourish because its customers will come not only from Kabankalan but from the other cities and towns in southern Negros as well, Go said.


Kabankalan city mayor Pedro P. Zayco, Jr. turned over a check in the amount of P50,000 to Kabankalan Mobile Vendors Association (KAMOVA) recently.

The check was received by Abrams Cordova, president of the association. The amount will be used for loan assistance to members of KAMOVA. This project of the city government is called Bayanihan Savings Replication Program (BSPP) patterned after the success of Pasig City and Pasay City experience.

Presently, KAMOVA has 24 members. To avail of the loan, members must have made a contribution of P10 per week to the association for the last three months.

Members can loan a maximum of P5,000 with 3% interest. According to Ma. Teresa Alip, coordinator, those interested to join must register, undergo orientation and contribute P20 to the weekly savings of the association.

Members can also loan for their providential needs like hospitalization, tuition fees and other cases approved by the credit committee.
